Klay Art Studio
Made by Hand, to Order

Keepsakes

A hand does not stay the size it is for very long. Klay Art Studio visits the home directly, takes the impression while it can still be taken, and returns it months later as fired, framed clay meant to last well beyond the childhood it recorded.

It begins with a message

A message on WhatsApp is usually enough. We agree on a date while the hand is still the size you want to remember, which is the only part of this that cannot wait.

1 Arranging a keepsake visit
We come to you

The impression is taken at home

The studio travels to you, with the clay prepared and ready. The impression itself takes moments. Nothing is asked of the child beyond a still hand, briefly.

2 Taking the clay impression at home
The kiln

Fired into ceramic

The impression returns to the studio and enters the fire. What was soft that morning comes out as ceramic, and from this point it cannot be undone or altered.

3 The impression being fired in the kiln
The frame

Set by hand into wood

Finished for a wall rather than a drawer. Eight inches, ready to hang the moment it reaches you.

4 The fired clay being set into its wooden frame
It comes home

Delivered to your door

Years from now the child will be taller than the frame, and the hand in it will still be exactly this size.

5 The finished keepsake hanging on a wall

Every keepsake begins with a message. Most families have theirs within a few weeks.
