Paintings

The Complexity Series studies machinery no longer in use, tractors left to rust in the fields that once depended on them. Rumana Rahman's Bitter Harvest, Silent Bloom, and Rhythms of Tradition turn instead to still life and print, to the objects and symbols of everyday life in Bangladesh. Each work is made once. None are reproduced again.

Artists

Klay Art Studio was never meant to hold one voice. A ceramicist who wanted clay in more hands than his own founded it; a printmaker keeps her own hours here alongside him now. Neither is asked to sound like the other, and the work is better for it.

Experiences

Klay Art Studio does not yet keep a studio of its own. Instead, the wheel travels, to a private residence hosting its own gathering, to the courtyard of a company marking an occasion worth remembering with something other than catering. Guests rarely leave with what they expected to.

Keepsakes

A hand does not stay the size it is for very long. Klay Art Studio visits the home directly, takes the impression while it can still be taken, and returns it months later as fired, framed clay meant to last well beyond the childhood it recorded. What began as an afternoon becomes something a family keeps for generations.

Shop

Plates and showpieces are made from the same clay, fired in the same kiln, as everything else the studio produces. Among them sits DAHUK, a small collection of carved terracotta named for a wetland bird that keeps close to the ground and rarely calls attention to itself.

Currently Available

A small number of original works are available at any time. Each is one of one.

The studio measures its history less in sales than in who has sat at that wheel, and what they made while they were there.

Our story

The studio takes a small number of commissions each season. If something here has stayed with you, write.
